LAS VEGAS — CalExotics, Doc Johnson, Exposed/Male Power, Lustella and Shots America are teaming up with CHAMPS Trade Shows to give away one fully stocked adult retail location anywhere in the U.S. as part of the expo’s July show in Las Vegas.

The giveaway includes first month’s rent and up to $50,000 in wholesale inventory upon opening, plus $5,000 cash for miscellaneous expenses paid at the CHAMPS annual summer show, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from July 19 to 22.

CalExotics’ president, industry veteran Susan Colvin, said she could not recall a giveaway of this magnitude previously occurring in the sector.

To be eligible for the giveaway, adult boutique owners must preregister for the CHAMPS Trade Shows Summer Show in Las Vegas and be present at the time of the drawing on July 21. One winner will be selected at random to receive a fully stocked store with a retail value of up to $200,000.

In addition to the adult boutique giveaway, CHAMPS will give away one smoke shop each day of the four-day event. Five winners in total will receive fully stocked retail stores, with the total value of all prizes reaching up to $1 million.

A CHAMPS  rep noted that the giveaways are the company’s way of showing attendees appreciation for their support over the years, as well as providing a warm welcome to new adult novelty and wellness exhibitors.

TOKYO — Vice has released a short documentary about Yuko Ogasawara, who is often billed as “the world’s oldest Japanese adult video star.”

The documentary, which debuted on Monday, is titled “The World’s Oldest Porn Star.” It features an interview with the 86-year-old Ogasawara, who shares stories about her journey in the adult industry, and also shows her home life.

Ogasawara, who shoots two titles a year, says she has no plans to slow down.

“Over the past six years,” a rep noted, Ogasawara has “ventured on a path of self-discovery: a housewife turned bar owner turned international sex symbol, pushing the boundaries of what people think a grandma can do.”

The piece situates Ogasawara in the world of “silver porn,” a Japanese adult video subgenre featuring senior citizens.

Ogasawara’s son is interviewed in the documentary as well, explaining, “I am 50 years old and my mother is a porn actress. I can’t tell that to anybody!”

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama House of Representatives last week approved a bill copying legislation passed in Utah in 2021, aiming to force phone and computer manufacturers to install default “porn filters” on devices sold in the state.

The Alabama House voted in favor of the bill last Tuesday by a margin of 70-8, with 24 abstentions. The bill next moves to the state Senate.

As XBIZ reported, HB 298 was introduced two years ago by Rep. Chris Sells (R – Greenville) and is part of an ongoing, state-by-state campaign to pass laws requiring default filtering — a crusade being coordinated by religiously motivated organizations including anti-porn lobby NCOSE, formerly known as Morality in Media.

Sells told the Alabama House Judiciary Committee in 2021 that while state laws prohibit children from buying alcohol and cigarettes, when it comes to mobile devices, “all they’ve got to do is punch a couple of buttons and it’s wide open to every kind of adult thing you can imagine.”

Sells demanded state intervention on behalf of “children whose parents haven’t gone to the trouble to make sure the filter is activated.”

“What I’m finding out is that most parents are not taking the time to download an app or to go into the settings of these phones, and just buy a child a phone and hand it to them,” Sells told the committee.

A Republican advisor at the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office testified during hearings about his belief in a statewide crisis of “porn addiction,” a premise contested by most psychology research.

Anderson described one child, with whose case he claimed to be involved, as “a full-blown addict” by the age of 10.

“He was often unsupervised with over four devices that gave him unlimited access to pornography,” Anderson continued, adding that “the child is 12 and remains addicted.”

The Utah bill included the unusual provision that it would not go into effect until five other states have passed matching legislation. Anti-porn lobbies continue recruiting religious politicians to target red-state legislatures in a bid to achieve that number.
