LOS ANGELES — Alex Mack, the longtime Hussie Models agent who bought the company in April, has renamed it Glow Models.
“I worked as an agent and a partner at Hussie Models for a while, and basically, I felt like we reached a point under the previous ownership where we simply couldn’t grow or excel in the way that I knew we were capable of,” explained Mack. “So, the only real solution that made sense was to either go our separate ways or for me to buy the agency myself.”
Mack said that the idea of walking away and leaving not just the team but all of the company’s models left a bad taste in his mouth.
“That’s why I decided to stay, buy the agency, and rebuild it into something that people would actually be proud to be part of. That’s how Glow Models came about.”
According to Mack, he workshopped nearly 100 different names that sounded “premium,” but things became tricky once he began looking at available domains online.
“I ran a bunch of names past the models, and everyone offered up their vote because it wasn’t just my decision to make. In the end, we liked Glow Models because that domain was available and not too expensive.”
At the moment, Glow Models represents more than 70 active models, and Mack made it clear that those models are free to leave at any time.
“We don’t believe in holding talent or restrictive contracts. Honestly, why would anyone? If the model is unhappy, they should be able to go find representation elsewhere. It’s just the right way to do it.
“We work for our clients, not the other way around. They tell us what they want to do, and it’s our job to get them there, if it’s a possibility,” he added. “We also don’t tell our models what to do; we advise them, and it’s up to the model to either take that advice or not.”
Mack, a veteran performer, explained how experience in front of the camera can be invaluable in an agent. For example, Glow agent Raven, a performer in the past, still works as a director and production manager in Florida.
“Raven understands the models like no other agent does — especially the female models — so there’s a real connection there,” said Mack. “Models can really open up to her, and she can help them deal with any issues. Because in this business, it’s not easy. There’s a whole mental health element, and that’s why we give the models the freedom to leave in our contracts, so there’s no pressure. Because we know that modeling and performing is already very demanding.”
For now, Mack is focused on getting his newly christened agency off the ground.
“We just launched our website, and so far, we’ve been getting really great feedback on it. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we’re eager to get started.”
