Japanese ‘Silver Porn’ Performer Emi Toda Profiled by The Guardian

Japanese 'Silver Porn' Performer Emi Toda Profiled by The Guardian

TOKYO — U.K.’s The Guardian profiled 65-year-old Japanese adult performer Emi Toda, noted for her work as a leading talent in the JAV niche “silver porn.”

Toda, who has starred in several popular titles in Japan’s equivalent of the GILF niche, started performing in her late 50s, profile writer Justin McCurry revealed.

At the time, Toda was “recently divorced and getting by on wages from part-time jobs at supermarkets and an undertaker when she decided it was time for a change.”

McCurry hypothesizes that the popularity of Toda and the “silver porn” market “reflects Japan’s status as a super-ageing society.”

Japan’s “demographic timebomb,” McCurry explained, “means the senior porn genre has a large and growing potential fanbase. The proportion of Japanese aged 80 or over reached one in 10 for the first time last year, the government said in September ahead of the annual Respect-for-the-Aged Day. An estimated 36.2 million people are aged 65 or older, accounting for a record 29.1% of the total population. By contrast, the number of 18-year-olds is at a record low of 1.06 million, according to figures released last month.”

Japan’s “senior” pornography market, he added “is one of the few areas of entertainment in which older women are the center of attention.”

“In ordinary Japanese society, it’s almost like women disappear when they reach 50, but this was different,” Toda reflected. “I liked that, and thought, ‘why not?’”

Toda told The Guardian that she supposes her family taboo titles are particularly successful because “seeing an old woman having sex with a much younger man in those circumstances has a certain impact, because it’s not something you would expect to happen in real life.”

Although everyone enjoys sex, she added, “older people are embarrassed to talk about it. There’s a belief that when women reach a certain age they lose interest in sex, but that’s not the case. I think I have helped challenge that misconception.”

Sen. Mike Lee Hijacks Taylor Swift AI Controversy to Push for Utah-Style Anti-Porn Policy Nationwide

Sen. Mike Lee Hijacks Taylor Swift AI Controversy to Push for Utah-Style Anti-Porn Policy Nationwide

SALT LAKE CITY — Anti-porn U.S. Senator Mike Lee inserted himself into the controversy over non-consensual AI content featuring pop singer Taylor Swift by advocating for his legislation proposal that would make Utah’s extreme legislation targeting consensual adult content into federal law.

Lee took to social media to ask Swift to support his PROTECT Act.

“Hi @taylorswift13 and @treepaine, I have legislation to help get harmful deepfake images removed quickly, and create a way for people to sue companies that don’t take them down,” Lee posted on X. “I’m re-introducing the PROTECT Act next week. Would love your support!”

Lee’s X post was then magnified over the weekend by Utah’s Deseret News, a publication that regularly publishes the claims of anti-porn propagandists, which are often religiously motivated.

Lee’s office explained that his soon-to-be-reintroduced PROTECT act would “require pornography sites to verify the age of all participants in pornographic images; require sites to obtain verified consent forms from individuals uploading content and those appearing in uploaded content; and mandate that websites quickly remove images upon receiving notice they uploaded without consent.”

Lee’s attempt to hijack the Swift controversy blurs the line between consensual adult content, which is constitutionally protected free speech, and non-consensual use of someone’s image to generate realistic images.

First Amendment expert Lawrence Walters, of Walters Law Group, told XBIZ that Lee “is attempting to capitalize on the high-profile Taylor Swift AI image incident to push legislation which has little to do with AI, and more to do with censorship of constitutionally protected speech.”

According to Walters, the PROTECT Act “would impose unconstitutional age and consent verification obligations on any interactive computer service which allow uploads of sexually-explicit content. The legislation burdens the publication of speech based solely on its content which raises the same First Amendment concerns that caused Section 2257 to be found largely unconstitutional by the federal courts.”

Lee’s proposal, he added, “mandates an impractical content removal deadline of 72 hours from receipt of the request regardless of the size or resources of the online platform, and seeks to regulate websites on a worldwide basis if the content is available in the U.S.”

The issue of deepfakes, Walters concluded, “is worthy of reasoned debate and consideration as opposed to a knee-jerk reaction to a Taylor Swift news story in the form of the PROTECT Act.”
