Hong Kong Performer Erena So’s Japanese AV Debut Hailed As Groundbreaking

HONG KONG — Erena So’s adult video debut in Japan is being hailed across Asia as a groundbreaking phenomenon for Chinese performers unapologetically promoting their sex content in the region’s premier erotic market.

So, also known as Erena So Hoi-lam, is being touted as the first Hong Kong-born porn performer to star in a Japanese AV production.

Her first title, released by the studio Faleno, co-stars noted Japanese male talent Ken Shimizu and was unveiled on the evening of April 1 after a lengthy build-up.

“The film premiered to a large number of netizens, who eagerly waited in front of their computers at 11 p.m. to witness the historic event,” a mainstream Chinese pop culture site reported. “After Erena So’s debut work was released, she joyfully announced on her Instagram Story that her work had topped the sales charts on Amazon Japan in the AV category. She expressed gratitude for the support of her fans, and her figure in the film sparked discussion among netizens.”

Amazon.co.jp sells and ranks AV content much more openly than its U.S. counterpart.

The 24-year-old So spent the weeks leading up to the film’s launch in an unusual, high-profile media push, giving several interviews across Asia about the novelty of an adult performer hailing from a territory that is currently part of the People’s Republic of China.

This culminated in an Instagram Live Q&A with her fans an hour after the film’s release. So told her fans during the session that her desire to become a Japanese AV actress stemmed from “wanting to break through as a woman and genuinely enjoy the process.”

“I genuinely love sex so I’m turning my interest into a career,” So told Hong Kong media last month.

A 2-Year Road to Japanese AV Stardom

So was candid about her time in Japan shooting her first two AV titles. Following the customary schedule of Japanese productions, So stayed in Japan for nine days. She was on set for six of those days, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and spoke Cantonese during her scenes.

So said she was hired after a two-year process, in which she was very proactive.

“I e-mailed my CV to Japanese porn production companies and they either ignored or rejected me,” she explained. “Then I approached production companies in Taiwan, asking if they could help me contact their Japanese counterparts.”

After she finally got the gig as a JAV “idol” — the pop-music-derived term used to describe adult performers who work for the Japanese studio system — So remained enthusiastic about the experience.

“There is one thing I really love about the Japanese production team,” So added. “They paid much respect and were attentive to me.”

So stressed that the Japanese production team “did not force her to do anything she did not want and kept telling her that she could pause the filming if she felt uncomfortable,” the Hong Kong Standard newspaper noted.

So told the Standard that she plans to work in AV films for at least three years and hopes later to transition to mainstream acting.

A Proactive Approach to Promotion

According to the paper, So organized her fans through Instagram campaigns, encouraging them to support her burgeoning career by pre-ordering DVDs, which retail at 350 Hong Kong dollars (approximately $45).

Some of her fans reportedly spent 7,000 Hong Kong dollars (almost $900) bulk-ordering 20 copies of the DVD before the release date.

Another source of notoriety in Hong Kong was a forged press release that purported to be from the city’s Secretary of Culture Kelvin Yeung Yun-hung, congratulating So on her debut, but which turned out to be a doctored copy of Yeung’s congratulations to Michelle Yeoh upon her recent Oscar win.

So is planning a signing event in Japan next month, and told her fans during the Q&A that she has no plans to shoot any uncensored videos without “mosaic” blurring, as they are illegal in that market.

Riley Reid’s Phone, Twitter Account Taken Over by Malicious Hackers

Riley Reid's Phone, Twitter Account Taken Over by Malicious Hackers

LOS ANGELES — Riley Reid’s phone and Twitter account were compromised this evening after malicious hackers took control of her phone number.

The hackers then posted antisemitic and homophobic content to Reid’s account, which was still up hours after the hack.

Reid spoke to XBIZ tonight and explained that “basically someone hacked into my phone provider and was able to get the number switched to their provider and device, so they are getting all my calls and texts as well as two factor authentication.”

The performer is urging those who have her number to not text or call it because “otherwise this person will now have your number and you’re at risk of going through what I’m going through.”

Reid added the bad actors “have been able to hack into my eBay, Venmo, Amazon and more, plus now Twitter. This is the biggest disaster of them all.

“My Twitter is my pride and joy. It’s something I have worked so hard at building and for someone to hack into it and ruin it with hateful, disgusting tweets is horrible,” Reid said. “I’m embarrassed and can’t believe this is happening to me. I’m so sorry to anyone else who is affected by this. I hope that this person will have mercy and stop what they are doing. I hope they can have self perspective and realize they are causing harm in so many ways and simply stop.”

Pro Mountain Biker, Cycling Federation Clash Over OnlyFans Sponsorship

AIGLE, Switzerland — Worldwide cycling federation Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and pro mountain biker Lewis Buchanan are currently in a standoff over the athlete’s announcement that his new sponsor for 2023 is OnlyFans.

The traditionally conservative Switzerland-based UCI notified Buchanan that he would not be permitted to race while representing OnlyFans as his sponsor, Canadian Cycling Magazine reported today.

Buchanan revealed that the organization sent him notice in February that he was in violation of Article 1.1.089 of the UCI Cycling Regulations, which states that “no brand of tobacco, spirits, pornographic products or any other products that might damage the image of the UCI or the sport of cycling in general shall be associated directly or indirectly with a license-holder, a UCI team or a national or international cycling competition.”

Buchanan said the standoff puts him “in an awkward situation.”

At the core of the debate is whether OnlyFans is a “pornographic product.” Both the company and Buchanan — the first mountain biker sponsored by OnlyFans — are arguing that it is not.

Buchanan told the UCI that while OnlyFans is used to promote adult content, it also features other content, Canadian Cycling Magazine reported. The endurance racer also noted that the UCI is “very active” on Twitter, which he pointed out “is also used to promote adult content.”

Buchanan has continued posting images of his helmet, prominently emblazoned with the distinctive blue-and-white OnlyFans logo, on his social media.

Three days ago, he

posted on Instagram that he had been invited to speak on behalf of OnlyFans at the OneZero sports tech conference in Dublin, “to chat about revenue beyond sport and mix with some important names and brands outside the sport which was great.”

“It was nice to make more people aware of the sport I love,” Buchanan noted. “As much as I’ve had criticism for my deal with OnlyFans for whatever reason, the positivity and understanding my supporters and fans have had has outweighed all that and it’s really allowing me to live a mint life, create more connections that can lead to life after riding and travel more and do more of what I love which is riding and racing bikes.”

Buchanan went on to explain to his fans that the UCI is preventing him from racing in international events.

“They have basically flagged up my deal w OF as a rule breaker,” he posted, “and are not really interested in learning more or being educated on it…so shame there.”

Buchanan also theorized what might happen “if OF came along and dumped a ton of cash and wanted to help the sport,” wondering if UCI’s current strict stance “would be slid away a tad.”

Were Buchanan to attempt to race with his OnlyFans sponsorship helmet, Canadian Cycling Magazine explained, officials could prevent him from starting the race, or UCI could fine him as much as 25,000 Swiss francs.
