BARCELONA — Sabien DeMonia (aka Sabrina Night) is celebrating her two 2021 MV Community Awards nominations.

NEW DELHI, India — India’s children’s rights agency National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is moving forward with proceedings to “ban the access of children to Twitter” in the country until the platform “completely removes all pornographic material.”

NCPCR has summoned the head of the Delhi Police Cyber Cell for tomorrow to receive in person a filing against Twitter over this matter, television station NDTV reported on Saturday.

It is unclear how NCPCR suggests to effect age verification for the 1.3 billion Indians, mostly adults, that would be affected by a potential block.

According to NCPCR chief Priyank Kanoongo, “Twitter was found to have given false and misleading responses during the enquiry conducted by NCPCR for the presence of pornographic and child sexual abuse matter, a grievous offense under the POCSO Act.”

The POCSO Act is a 2021 law hailed in a 2013 document by the Ministry of Women and Child Development as “a comprehensive law to provide for the protection of children from the offenses of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography.”

Both the law and the NCPCR erroneously conflate in their language “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) and “all pornography.”

NDTV also reports that on May 29, “a letter was issued to the secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology to initiate a ban on the access of children on Twitter on an immediate basis till the time Twitter makes its platform safe for children by ensuring complete removal of child sexual abuse material and pornographic material and reporting of cybercrime cases to the authorities in India.”

LONDON — Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has reportedly dropped a U.S. trademark case against Screaming O Pleasure Products’ parent companies Pacific Holdings and Momentum Management over their RingO penis rings, after a settlement was reached.

Pacific Holdings and Momentum Management have agreed to “avoid any activity likely to lead to confusion” between the penis rings and the musician, to add a space between “Ring” and “O,” and to only use the name for adult sex aids and desensitizing sprays.

Starr had “challenged the RingO trademark, saying it’s too similar to his name and might cause confusion,” the BBC reported today.

Starr’s lawyers argued that “his reputation would be damaged if the RingO name was registered as a trademark with US authorities,” but “he has now withdrawn his complaint after reaching an agreement with the manufacturers,” according to the BBC.

Starr’s complaint claimed that the penis ring’s name was “identical in appearance, sound, connotation and pronunciation” to his long-trademarked performing name. Starr’s birth name is Richard Starkey but has been known since his earliest professional musician days in Liverpool in the early 1960s as “Ringo,” because of his penchant for drumming while wearing flashy rings.

Starr was an in-demand local young musician in the summer of 1962, when he was invited to join The Beatles as a replacement for their original drummer Pete Best.

Starr’s lawyers claimed that consumers “will likely believe that Opposer’s [Starr’s] newest venture is sex toys — and this is an association that Opposer does not want,” adding their client “wants nothing to do with the goods,” because the association could tarnish his “name, likeness and brand.”

The BBC reports that “the companies have pledged not to ‘degrade, tarnish or deprecate or disparage’ Starr’s name or image. They also said they wouldn’t make any reference or innuendo associating the product with Starr, or give the impression that he’s associated with it.”

NEW YORK — The New York Times’ “Modern Love” column featured today an essay by an 83-year-old legally blind woman about her experience as a shopper in an adult boutique.

The essay, titled “Why Won’t Anyone Help Me in This Sex Shop?” was penned by Diana de Vegh, a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City.

“I’m a perfectly respectable woman who knows what she wants and has the ability to pay for it,” de Vegh wrote. “At 83, I may be a little older than most, and legally blind, but generally speaking, people are pleased to welcome me into their shops and boutiques and promptly move forward to offer assistance.”

“But here? In this sophisticated SoHo sex store? It was like a parting of the waters, with me marooned on a distant shore. No one was asking if I needed help finding anything. Worse yet, the friend I had invited specifically to review and report on the merchandise seemed to have vanished. Had she been magically vaporized in a mist of embarrassment by the array of multicolored dildos greeting us upon entry? What did she expect in a place like this? Variety is their specialty.”

De Vegh wrote that she wanted to “purchase a couple of delightful toys because I believe in the pursuit of happiness for people of all ages and proclivities.”

The therapist said she finds prudishness around sex shops baffling.

In the world of psychoanalytically prescribed correct sex, the use of accouterments would diminish the primacy of the almighty male organ. Out of the question back then. “For some of us, the era of the quickie is over,” she concluded. “Nonetheless, a midday solo excursion or a teatime rendezvous for one might be just the ticket. No matter the setting, ‘Toys Can Be Us’ for adults.”
