Industry Vet Nick Orlandino Passes Away

LOS ANGELES — Pleasure products industry vet Nick Orlandino has passed away, according to social media reports.

Details surrounding his passing have not yet been revealed.

Orlandino got his start in the adult and gift industry unloading trucks for Forum Novelties in New York at age 15 and eventually worked his way up to general manager. In 1992, he relocated to Los Angeles and joined Pipedream Products as vice president of sales and marketing. In 1994, he became a partner in the corporation and went on to run all day-to-day operations at Pipedream.

In 1996, Orlandino founded the Adult Novelty Manufacturers Expo, the industry’s first and largest business-to-business trade show that continues to bring together vendors and adult retail buyers. In 1999, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Free Speech Coalition, where he served as Treasurer for four years. In recognition of an outstanding career as CEO of Pipedream Products, Orlandino is included in the 2008/2009 Princeton Premier Registry, where he is listed among the most accomplished business leaders and professionals.

In 2014, Orlandino was honored with the Industry Pioneer Award at the XBIZ Awards, which recognized and celebrated his illustrious career. He also received his eighth leadership award when he was named Free Speech Coalition’s 2014 Man of the Year. The award recognized Orlandino’s lifelong contributions to the adult industry and honored him for his 30 years of service.

Orlandino announced his retirement in 2018 after 35 years in the industry.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Twitter ‘Permanently Suspends’ Pineapple Support Account

Twitter 'Permanently Suspends' Pineapple Support Account

LOS ANGELES — Twitter “permanently suspended” the Pineapple Support account over the weekend, founder Leya Tanit reported through her personal account.

“We have no idea why our account was suspended,” Tanit told XBIZ. “It was done entirely without warning, and we’ve never had any issue in the past. We are currently appealing to get it back.”

Tanit added that while Pineapple Support provides “vital mental healthcare to people working in the adult industry, we don’t share or post any content that is in any way unsafe for work. We share resources and spread awareness about mental health services that are available to those who are struggling. The loss of the account is devastating, particularly at a time of year when many people are struggling.”

At the time of the unexpected suspension, the sex-worker-led mutual aid non-profit led by Tanit was preparing for the busiest time of the year for outreach to at-risk performers. Pineapple Support is an active participant in the in-person adult industry events this month, including XBIZ 2023 and X3 Expo in Hollywood California next week.

FSC Director of Public Affairs Mike Stabile, who also handles Pineapple Support’s communications, told XBIZ that “it’s absolutely unconscionable for Twitter to block access to healthcare information for adult workers as we head into the shows.”

Stabile noted that while Pineapple Support serves the adult community, “they don’t show or share adult content, and I’ve never seen them come close to anything that would violate Twitter’s terms. The removal of the account makes no sense on policy terms, so my only thought is that it’s the result of an internal decision or the result of someone gaming the algorithm, possibly through mass reports.”

XBIZ will continue updating this report as more information becomes available.

Nalpac Acquires Entrenue, Cements Westward Distribution Expansion

FERNDALE, Mich. — Michigan pleasure product distributor Nalpac has acquired Scottsdale, Arizona-based adult specialty distributor Entrenue.

Entrenue’s Scottsdale warehouse, offices, and staff are included in the acquisition. The deal is part of Nalpac’s westward expansion.

“Our team is excited about the merger with Entrenue and their outstanding staff, who share the same commitment to providing the highest level of service to every customer,” said Nalpac CEO Steve Craig. “For Nalpac, this expansion supports our continued vision for growth across all sectors of the sexual health and wellness community. Joe (Casella, founder and CEO of Entrenue) spent years building a unique business that has become a one-of-a-kind distribution model transcending adult distribution.”

According to a rep, the merger will offer each company’s current manufacturing partners access to both distributors’ customer databases and product lines.

“I’m thrilled about the Nalpac and Entrenue acquisition and believe it’s an intelligent, prosperous synergy and win-win for all,” said Entrenue VP of Sales and Marketing Lily Wang. “Our clients will highly benefit the most with an expanded customer service team in different time zones and distribution centers for faster shipping in different regions. I’m personally very excited to work with the Nalpac team to build new relationships across all departments. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow more with a larger organization. Our teams will have access to new and different resources, tools, and expertise from all the successful team members.”

Nalpac Director of Marketing and Strategic Partnership Phoebe Grott echoed Wang’s enthusiasm.

“I had the opportunity to work with Joe, Lily, and the Entrenue team in my prior experience in retail, and I have immense respect for their special brand of service,” she said. “Both Nalpac and Entrenue have long-standing relationships in the industry and are aligned on values and integrity. I am excited to collaborate with the great folks at Entrenue to deliver the best services and assortment at the distributor level in 2023 and beyond.”

Casella spoke about his accomplishments with the company he founded 16 years ago and what went into his decision to sell his business.

“After 16 years of owning Entrenue, it is time for me to move on. I have accomplished everything I had in my sights during that time, including bringing pleasure and joy to millions of people, donating a ton to charity, improving thousands of small businesses along the way, and supporting the livelihoods of my dedicated staff every day,” he said. “I wanted to sell to an ethical team who had a proven track record of success, an excellent reputation and had impressed me over the years. After speaking with the Craig brothers from Nalpac, it was clear to me that they were my top choice. After hearing their story and what they did with Nalpac, never hearing a bad word about them from my peers, and seeing them included regularly by new suppliers about conversations in brand exclusivity, they stood out to me.”

He expressed his excitement about Nalpac’s future, and shared his gratitude toward his suppliers, retail clients, and staff.

“After dealing with [Nalpac] over the last several months in this deal, I see that I made the right choice. They are kind, have integrity, and have exciting plans to grow my baby…make that my 16-year-old. Thank you again to my talented suppliers, incredible retailers, and my dedicated staff, who happen to be my family away from home,” he said.
