Kenna James Toplines Dorcel Feature 'The Invitation'

PARIS — Kenna James headlines the latest release from Dorcel, “The Invitation,” co-starring Vanna Bardot.

Directed by Kay Brandt, the title also features Gia Derza, Bella Rolland, Destiny Cruz, Jay Smooth, Jessy  Jones, Codey Steele and Robby Echo.

As the title starts, James “is a workaholic whose professional commitments have become so overwhelming she’s willing to take calls during sex with her boyfriend Justin (Smooth) just to keep up with her competitors at the office,” said a rep. “So, when Justin receives an invitation from their friends Sage (Bardot) and Anthony (Steele) to join them for a relaxing getaway at their villa, it seems like the perfect opportunity to get Janie’s mind off her career.”

Daniel Metcalf, Dorcel’s U.S. publicist, enthused about the release.

“This film is emotionally-driven and as thought-provoking as it is erotic,” he said. “In Kay Brandt’s hands, subjects like stoicism, the limits of art, careerism, and people’s willingness to do things for love are are juxtaposed with the precision you’d expect from a Neil LaBute play or film.”

“The Invitation” is streaming on AdultEmpire, and available on DVD from Pulse Distribution.

The Daily Dot Surveys New Efforts to Include Sex Worker Voices in Academia

NEW YORK — A Daily Dot article out today highlights the movement to make sure academic research on sex work reflects the voices and experiences of actual sex workers, a goal of which mainstream academia has historically fallen short.

The article is part of the Daily Dot’s new sex work-oriented vertical, Pleaser, and was written by journalist Jake Hall, who specializes in sexualities and queer issues and authored the book, “The Art of Drag.”

Hall chronicles recent efforts to platform and amplify the voices of sex workers, including those by U.K. activist Vee Holt and the Sex Work Research Hub, a “sex worker-led academic network” that works to “engage with policy-makers, connect researchers, and fight the impact of existing, stigmatizing research.”

Also featured is New York-based Dr. Angela Jones, who sent out a call on Twitter for “sources written or produced by sex workers.” Her mentions, Hall reports, “were quickly flooded.”

Jones then collaborated with Dr. Heather Berg and Dr. PJ Patella-Rey, fellow academics who are also former sex workers, to produce a Sex Worker Syllabus, unveiled in August 2021.

“In the spirit of mutual aid and crowdsourced knowledge — both staples of sex work activism,” Hall writes, “the Sex Worker Syllabus is a living document that continues to grow and shift in response to feedback.”

The Daily Dot article calls projects like the Sex Worker Syllabus “crucial in bringing the perspectives of actual sex workers into academia, an arena that too often relies on claims of impartiality to evade accountability.”

As Jones explained, “A lot of academics, especially those without lived experience, are writing about sex work. They’re building careers on that work, but they’re not actually citing sex workers.”

These civilian researchers, Vee Holt noted, now “have to contend with the fact that we’re in the room with them too, and we’re holding them accountable.”

Wicked Sensual Care Sales Director Jennifer Brice observed that as an accredited sexual health educator, Kennedy “ensures the information taught to customers is credible and evidence based, and most importantly, takes place in a safe space, which she and Enchantasys provide. The education Toni provides encourages people to make safe, informed, and fun decisions about their sexual health.”

Adult retailers are invited to nominate employees and colleagues who “continuously exceed expectations and deserve recognition for their ability to position themselves as product and industry experts.”

Retailers may be nominated (or self-nominate) by sending their name, store name, location/city, store social media handles, and a brief paragraph about why they deserve to be a “superstar.” Send nominations to Team@WickedSensualCare.com, or through this form.

Future Retail Superstar honorees will also be profiled in Wicked Sensual Care’s monthly newsletter.

Eldorado, Segpay Team Up to Fund FSC Online Legislative Action Center

LOS ANGELES — Eldorado Trading and Segpay are teaming up with the Free Speech Coalition to launch a legislative Action Center, which will track federal and state legislation pertinent to the adult industry.

The site will utilize “best-in-class bill tracking and analysis software” and will be available to all members of the industry, said a rep.

“At a time when our industry is under increasing attack, the FSC Action Center will allow us to identify, monitor and fight legislation that threatens our rights and our businesses,” said FSC Executive Director Alison Boden. “Through their support, Eldorado, Segpay and our other sponsors are providing an incredible tool for the industry.”

Doc Johnson, Grooby, PervOut and Polari Media are also on board as Grassroots Sponsors.

“We’re proud to support this important and ambitious effort to protect our industry,” said Eldorado CEO Wanda Garland. “If we’re going to successfully fight the discrimination and censorship our industry faces, we need to be as aware and equipped as our opponents. I hope others in the industry will join us in funding this effort.”

Legislative issues that the site will track include banking discrimination, pleasure product restrictions, age verification, attacks on Section 230 protection, device filter mandates and sex workers’ rights, among other issues.

“The Action Center will allow us to respond quickly and effectively, and provide tools to our members to take action themselves,” Boden continued. “We’ve seen an unprecedented number of anti-adult bills introduced in the past year, and we expect it to only increase with the new Congress. We ask everyone in our industry who is concerned about the growing attack on our rights to help sponsor the Action Center and our increasing legislative work.”

Tumblr Welcomes Back Nudity, But Not ‘Sexually Explicit Acts’

NEW YORK — Tumblr unveiled its new community guidelines today, announcing that the platform now welcomes “a broader range of expression, creativity and art” including “the naked human form.”

As XBIZ reported, in late September Tumblr introduced a new feature enabling users to label posts as featuring “sexual themes,” defined as content which “contains sexually suggestive subject matter, such as erotic writing or imagery.”

Like today’s new community guidelines, that news was shared via a post on Tumblr’s staff blog.

A week later, Matt Mullenweg — CEO of Automattic, the company that owns Tumblr — explained in an extensive blogpost that he thinks it is currently impossible for the internet to be “porn-friendly” because, among other reasons, “credit card companies are anti-porn.”

Automattic, which also owns popular blogging software WordPress, acquired a failing Tumblr from Verizon in 2019, after the platform’s numbers crumbled following its deletion of all adult content.

In his post, titled “Why ‘Go Nuts, Show Nuts’ Doesn’t Work in 2022,” Mullenweg described himself as “personally extremely libertarian in terms of what consenting adults should be able to share” but expressed his view that “no modern internet service in 2022 can have the rules that Tumblr did in 2007.”

‘Sexually Explicit Acts’ Still Verboten

Today’s announcement of the new community guidelines expanded on the earlier news by noting, “even if your creations contain nudity, mature subject matter, or sexual themes, you can now share them on Tumblr using the appropriate Community Label so that everyone remains in control of the types of content they see on their dash.”

However, other anti-sexual-expression content policies established in 2018 will remain the same, as the new post clarified by listing legal, consensual sex acts alongside other prohibited content.

“We still don’t allow hate, spam, violent threats, or anything illegal and visual depictions of sexually explicit acts remain off-limits on Tumblr,” the post noted, adding, “if you want to know more about that, our CEO Matt recently explained why it’s not feasible for us to safely and successfully support porn communities at this time.”

Should users come across these types of content, Tumblr asks that they report it.
