‘Adult Industry News’ Unveils User-Friendly Revamp

LOS ANGELES — Adult Industry News (AIN), founded by industry vet Steve Nelson 23 years ago, has unveiled a new user-friendly website revamp.

Nelson, who remains in his position as Editor-in-Chief, intended AIN to serve as “a positive voice in the tight-knit community to highlight the accomplishments, creativity and hard work of its professionals,” noted a rep.

The site now offers “an updated and streamlined delivery of its more than 24,000 articles, interviews, film reviews and press releases for a better online experience,” the rep explained, with multiple navigation methods that include “a category list noting how many articles in each section are linked, an improved search tool that finds stories by date from drop-down menus at the side of articles and random ‘blast from the past’ thumbnails linked to articles in the database archives.”

Nelson said he conceived the idea for AIN when he was at an event with the late industry journalist and historian Bill Margold.

“I was complaining about the way the gossip sites of the day were trashing the girls and the industry as a whole,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Why doesn’t someone write something good about the industry?’ Bill paused for a second, looked at me, and in his booming voice, said, ‘Why don’t you do it, kid?’ That was the catalyst for the idea that became AIN.”

Swiss Navy Encourages Support of ‘Independent Retailer Month’

Swiss Navy Encourages Support of 'Independent Retailer Month'

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — M.D. Science Lab, makers of Swiss Navy brand lubricants, is offering suggestions to retailers to help them commemorate Independent Retailer Month throughout July, including use of the social media hashtag #IndieRetail.

“Independent Retailer Month began 10 years ago in 2011 as a way to highlight the important role local merchants have in their communities,” explained a rep. “When consumers shop locally, they are helping support an entrepreneur and people who live in their community.”

“A study in New Orleans found that if residents and visitors were to shift 10% of their spending from chains to local businesses, this move would generate an additional $235 million a year in local economic activity,” the rep added.

Swiss Navy’s suggestions include the following:

  • Give Back to the Local Community
Data shows that 75% of small businesses donate 6% of their profits each year to charitable causes, many of which are local. Consider offering locally made products in your shops or getting employees involved in a day of community service.
  • Use Creative Visual Merchandising
Unlike chain stores that adhere to similar floor plans and merchandising, independent retailers can use their imaginations to create unique shopping experiences for consumers.
  • Connect Directly with Buyers
Independent retailers are familiar with their customers wants and needs, and their store selection can reflect an interesting blend of products based on consumer feedback.
  • Create Badges
Buttons worn by staff can identify your shop as locally owned; for example, ‘Proud to be an Independent Retailer.’

“However you choose to celebrate Independent Retailer Month, Swiss Navy commends those working to support their local communities,” the rep concluded.
