PARIS — French adult studio Jacquie et Michel has announced its acquisition by an international fund, marking a significant development for the well-known brand.

The studio, which has been owned for 25 years by Michel Piron, will henceforth be managed from the United States by a new company, JetM Technology Solutions.

Piron, who was charged with a number of offenses by the French government in 2022, was recently cleared.

“After 25 years of family-led management, the Group is now embarking on a historic transition,” said a rep.

“As part of this natural transition, Jacquie et Michel has been acquired by an international fund specializing in the entertainment industry,” the rep continued. “This fund, already well-established in the sector, presents an exceptional opportunity for the brand’s global expansion.”

According to the announcement, the Jacquie et Michel product line has been distributed among the fund’s teams based on geographic and operational expertise, with some based in the U.S. and others in Canada, Cyprus, and Hungary. All French operations will be shuttered.

“This new structure aims to tailor content to international audiences by acquiring region-specific material while preserving the core elements that made Jacquie et Michel successful in France,” the rep added. “Jacquie et Michel remains committed to its strict Ethical and Deontological Charter, which will continue to guide all its operations. Content acquisitions from independent producers undergo rigorous scrutiny, including recorded audio checks, to ensure that production standards and ethical guidelines are upheld.”

LOS ANGELES — Luxembourg-based Byborg Enterprises SA has closed its investment and licensing partnership with Playboy parent company PLBY Group.

The LiveJasmin parent company initially signed an equity investment agreement with the iconic brand in October for 14.9 million newly issued shares of PLBY Group at $1.50 per share, along with a letter of intent to license content from PLBY at a rate of $20 million a year for 15 years, for a total of $300 million. That deal has now been finalized with the signing of a definitive share purchase agreement and a long-term licensing agreement.

According to the agreement, Byborg will license PLBY digital IP and will operate key assets including Playboy Plus, Playboy TV, and the Playboy Club creator platform.

LONDON — U.K. communications regulator Ofcom published on Monday the first edition of its online safety codes of practice and guidance for adult websites.

The codes are part of a set of regulations to prevent illegal harms online, mandated by the recently passed Online Safety Act, due to take effect in 2025.

“The Act places new safety duties on social media firms, search engines, messaging, gaming and dating apps, and pornography and file-sharing sites,” a statement from the regulator reads. “Before we can enforce these duties, we are required to produce codes of practice and industry guidance to help firms comply, following a period of public consultation.”

The codes have been published four months ahead of the deadline set by the Act to allow websites time to meet compliance requirements. Final guidelines for age verification requirements will be released next month.

Dame Melanie Dawes, chief executive of Ofcom, said in the statement, “For too long, sites and apps have been unregulated, unaccountable and unwilling to prioritize people’s safety over profits. That changes from today. The safety spotlight is now firmly on tech firms, and it’s time for them to act. We’ll be watching the industry closely to ensure firms match up to the strict safety standards set for them under our first codes and guidance, with further requirements to follow swiftly in the first half of next year.”

Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) Director Tim Henning, who has been consulting with Ofcom on behalf of adult industry stakeholders, urged compliance with the guidelines.

“Unlike some ‘child protection’ proposals in the U.S. and elsewhere that are thinly veiled attempts at the outright prohibition of pornography, the U.K. is leaving the door open for responsible platforms and providers to serve the needs of consenting adults,” Henning said. “We hope that implementing an economically feasible and successful approach to online child protection by the U.K. will inspire other jurisdictions to find more balanced ways of meeting this universal need.”
