Pornhub Reports ‘Hentai’ Is Top Worldwide Search Term

Pornhub Reports 'Hentai' Is Top Worldwide Search Term

MONTREAL — Following a two-year hiatus, Pornhub has released its annual “Year in Review” infographics report, revealing that the top worldwide porn search term on the platform is “hentai.”

The report was released through the company’s data analysis marketing division Pornhub Insights.

It is the platform’s eighth “Year in Review” report and covers “2021’s hottest trends, terms, searches and a recap of everything that happened during the year,” and including “commentary to touch on the main trends and breakdown the details to see how the year that was 2021 affected the porn viewership of people around the world.”

Highlights from the report include:

  • Trends that have found unique popularity among Pornhub browsers this year are words linked to romance (“romance,” “romantic,” “passionate,” “bromance”), group sex (“threesome,” “group,” “FFM,” “MMF,” “orgy”), fitness (“yoga,” “running,” “exercise,” “gym”), swapping (“swap,” “swapping,” “swinger,” “swinging,” “cuckold,” “cheating”), challenge (“buss it,” “jerk off challenge,” “try not to cum”), transgender (“trans”), goth, roommate (“lesbian roommate,” “gay roommate,” “fucking roommate”) and “How to…” (“…squirt,” “…eat pussy,” “…suck dick,” “…put on a condom”).
  • Besides “hentai,” the Top 10 most-searched terms of 2021 worldwide were: “Japanese,” “lesbian,” “MILF,” “Pinay,” “Asian,” “stepmom,” “anal,” “ebony” and “big ass.”
  • The Top 10 most-searched porn stars in 2021 were Lana Rhoades, Abella Danger, Eva Elfie, Riley Reid, Mia Malkova, Angela White, Mia Khalifa, Jordi El Nino Polla, Lena Paul and XBIZ 2021 “Performer of the Year” Emily Willis.
  • The Top 10 countries by traffic were the United States, U.K., Japan, France, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Philippines, Brazil and Spain.
  • The Top 10 most viewed categories were: Japanese, lesbian, ebony, hentai, MILF, anal, mature, popular with women and threesome.
  • The Top 10 gay search terms were: “twink,” “femboy,” “hentai,” “straight,” “black,” “Japanese,” “Pinoy,” “Asian,” “yaoi” and “anime.”
  • The average age of Pornhub visitors was 37.
  • The percentage of Pornhub visitors accessing the site via their smartphones through browsers was 83%.

Why ‘Hentai’?

As for the top worldwide term, the Pornhub Insights report explained that in Japanese culture, “‘hentai’ can refer to any sort of sexual fetish. But around the world it most often describes the pornographic form of anime, a style of Japanese film and television animation. Hundreds of thousands of hentai videos can be found on Pornhub, including professional productions, homemade animations made by fans and 3D generated scenes.”

“Hentai,” they continued, “became the most popular search term in the world after it moved to the top spot in the United States, Pornhub’s biggest audience. ‘Hentai’ was a Top 10 search in almost every country in 2021.”

Dr. Laurie Betito, clinical psychologist, sex therapist and director of the Pornhub Sexual Wellness Center, pointed out that “cartoons are more fantastical than regular porn. They may offer more visual stimulation in terms of movements, angles, colors and facial expressions. Because it’s not real, it can go further, with less constraints that reality offers. Hentai porn also tends to have more of a storyline and people seem to be more and more drawn to context.”

Lust Cinema Unwraps Casey Calvert’s ‘Home for the Holidays’

Lust Cinema Unwraps Casey Calvert's 'Home for the Holidays'

BARCELONA — Lust Cinema has announced Casey Calvert’s new original feature “Home for the Holidays” releases on Friday.

Julia Ann, Vanna Bardot, Dillon Diaz, April Olsen and Whitney Wright fill out the cast.

“This explicit feature film proves there is no place like home for the holidays, as long as it’s not your own home,” noted a rep. “Casey brings the holiday spirit to life with this film that deals with secret desires and family and friendship dynamics during that highly emotional and often stressful time of the year. The result is a sexy and romantic feature that is sure to become an erotic holiday classic.”

“The film follows two women, one running from a messy divorce, the other running towards her secret desires, as they swap houses for the holiday season. Juliette (Bardot) has just been served with divorce papers, while Diana (Julia Ann) is bored of her typical male suitors and is looking for an escape,” the rep continued. “A change of scenery is exactly what they need to deal with their holiday blues; soon, both will find themselves distracted and excited living in the other’s life.”

Calvert enjoyed the opportunity to explore a new genre.

“This was a really fun production. There are always light moments in my films, but this was a really fun adventure in flexing my comedy chops,” she said. “Working with Julia Ann was amazing. Obviously, she is an industry legend, and I’m so honored that she wanted to do this film with me.”

“This was my first time directing Vanna and she was so much fun to work with,” the director continued. “She’s such a smart actor, and has such dedication to the part, that I loved working with her.”

Chinese Social Media Giant Weibo Ordered to Crack Down on ‘Soft Porn’

Chinese Social Media Giant Weibo Ordered to Crack Down on 'Soft Porn'

SHANGHAI, China — China’s social media giant Weibo announced a sweeping overhaul of its content moderation to target and eliminate any content deemed to be sexual expression, or “soft porn,” after receiving a hefty fine by Chinese internet regulators.

The Cyberspace Administration of China, CNBC reported, announced last week on its official WeChat account that “it had fined Weibo’s operator because some accounts and content has violated relevant laws and regulations.”

On Tuesday, Weibo also announced the creation of a work team dedicated to “identifying and intercepting soft porn content.”

Chinese authorities claim to have fined Weibo up to 44 times this year for supposed content violations, many of them related to public morality legislation, totaling 14.3 million yuan ($2.3 million dollars).

“The platform must rigorously comply with its responsibilities,” China’s main online censorship enforcer admonished, including stepping up efforts to “monitor public information, reinforce the management of the information published by its users and not provide a communication platform for illegal information.”

The Cyberspace Administration of China defined the objectionable material, including what they consider “soft porn,” as “serious content prohibited by national law.”

Weibo told the regulator the company “sincerely accepts the criticism” and promised to “apply the requirements with determination through manual and automated strategies to prevent the publication of soft porn content.”

UK Parliamentary Committee Endorses Restrictive ‘Online Safety’ Bill

LONDON — A U.K. parliamentary committee published earlier this week a report on the draft of a restrictive Online Safety Bill being actively promoted by Boris Johnson’s government, several Labor MPs and virtually all the U.K. press.

“Britain’s online safety bill needs a sweeping overhaul to prevent children from accessing pornography, vulnerable people from being encouraged to commit self-harm and negligent tech chiefs from failing to protect users, according to a committee of MPs and peers,” The Guardian reported Monday.

Despite serious concerns about the bill’s infringement on freedom of expression and privacy, which have been pointed out by several digital rights organizations worldwide, the parliamentary committee’s report recommended several measures to tighten regulations on online content, often targeting very specifically “pornography.”

The committee’s Conservative chair, Damian Collins MP, called the current online landscape “the land of the lawless” and extolled the virtues of more government intervention in public expression.

“A lack of regulation online has left too many people vulnerable to abuse, fraud, violence and in some cases even loss of life,” he claimed.

The committee spent six months analyzing the government’s proposals for “online safety” reforms in an atmosphere where the entire spectrum of media outlets — from extreme right tabloids to the supposedly liberal Guardian, to the ever-present BBC — have been stoking up several moral panic campaigns around adult content online.

Conservatives Eager to End the Era of ‘Self-Regulation’ Online

Two weeks ago, the Johnson government signaled to establishment newspaper The Times that it is ready to revive an age verification scheme for online adult content — a plan previously shelved in favor of the pending Online Safety Bill.

As XBIZ previously reported, the section of 2017’s Digital Economy Act that mandated age verification for accessing online adult content was set aside in Oct. 2019. At the time, the U.K. government issued a statement explaining that it intended to seek a more “comprehensive online harms proposals,” citing among other issues the need to address regulating social media.

The Times was told that an age verification plan was now “being looked on with approval by Nadine Dorries, the culture secretary, and Nadhim Zahawi, the education secretary.”

“Their support follows work by Dame Rachel de Souza, the Children’s Commissioner, who has sent a report to ministers recommending that age verification become compulsory on all porn sites,” The Times added.

According to tech news site TechCrunch, the committee’s report endorsed the government’s push “to go beyond industry self-regulation by enforcing compliance with a set of rules intended to hold tech giants accountable for the content they spread and monetize — including via a series of codes of practice and with the media regulator, Ofcom, given a new major oversight and enforcement role over Internet content.”

“The era of self-regulation for big tech has come to an end,” committee chair Damian Collins declared.

Crafting ‘a New Form of Censorship’

The TechCrunch report also explained that the committee demanded that any new law law aimed at online safety “require companies to act on, for example, misogynistic abuse or stirring up hatred against disabled people would not be credible. Leaving such abuse unregulated would itself be deeply damaging to freedom of speech online.”

“In earlier iterations the legislative plan was given the government shorthand ‘Online Harms’ — and the draft continues to target a very broad array of content for regulation, from stuff that’s already explicitly illegal (such as terrorism or CSAM) to unpleasant but (currently) legal content such as certain types of abuse or content that celebrates self harm,” TechCrunch noted.

Critics, they added, have “warned that the bill poses huge risks to free speech and freedom of expression online as platforms will face the threat of massive fines (and even criminal liability for execs) for failing to comply with an inherently subjective concept of ‘harm’ baked into U.K. law.”

Digital rights and free speech advocates insist the bill will “introduce a new form of censorship.”

Nightclub Promoter Arrested in L.A. Manslaughter Case

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles event promoter David Pearce, 37, known professionally as David or Dave Bryant, who booked mainstream and adult talent at nightclubs, and two other men were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection to the deaths of two women, 24-year-old model Christy Giles and 26-year-old architect Hilda Cabrales Arzola, who were allegedly given an overdose of drugs while partying and dropped off at hospitals by masked men last month, according to an LAPD report released today.

Pearce was arrested along with 42-year-old Brandt Osborn and 47-year-old Mike Ansbach.

“According to police reports, homicide detectives began investigating after masked men dropped Giles off at a hospital in Culver City on Nov. 13 and sped away in a black Toyota Prius with no plates,” the Los Angeles Times reported today.

“Giles was unconscious at the time, and soon pronounced dead,” the Times report continued. “Arzola was dropped off at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles hospital a short time later. She was in a coma and in very critical condition. She died Nov. 24 having never regained consciousness, according to investigators.”

Approximately 12 hours before they were dropped at the West side hospitals, the two women were last seen at a warehouse party on the east side of Los Angeles.

The LAPD now alleges that between those locations both women were partying at a home on Olympic Blvd. near Beverly Hills, where police believe they overdosed.

Text messages between the women indicate they were trying to leave Pearce’s house and may have called an Uber.

The LAPD said that based on their investigation, the are concerned that “there could be other victims in our community who could have been drugged by one or more of these men.”

Pearce was being held on $1 million bail. Ansbach and Osborn’s bail was set to $100,000.

A Party Promoter With Ties to the World of Adult

A source confirmed to XBIZ today that David Pearce (aka Dave Bryant) booked adult entertainers to host parties and/or feature dance, and he worked at or with several notable nightclubs.

Pearce is listed as the CEO of All Access Entertainment, an El Segundo event organizing company. A Facebook page — last updated in 2016 — for the company reads as follows: “We produce some of the biggest events, Get Access into all the hottest Night Clubs and Day clubs Events in Las Vegas with VIP/Express entry.”

News reports and photo agency shots list him as a “producer” of events at major clubs in Vegas and other markets.

Pearce was often photographed at nightlife events he organized, like his 2008 birthday party and premiere of the show “Pimp My Wheelchair.” He was photographed with Ron Jeremy and other Los Angeles nightlife regulars at the 2009 premiere of Jeremy’s mainstream film “One Eyed Monster.”

The Long Shadow of the Violet Rain Case

The case presented by the police against Pearce and his associates — with women OD’ing at a second private location after being picked up at a public party, and their bodies being dropped at local hospitals — has striking parallels with the March 2019 death of 19-year-old adult performer Violet Rain.

Rain remained in a coma for 10 days before passing. The investigation into Rain’s overdose was conducted by Detective David Meza, from the Hollenbeck Community Police Station. XBIZ spoke with Meza while Rain was unconscious between March 4 and March 14, and the detective informed us of her passing via text message.

A reliable source close to the investigation told XBIZ that accounts had placed the young performer at the Hollywood celebrity nightclub Nightingale Plaza until closing time, and after that at a private party at a home in the Pasadena Hills.

That case remains unsolved and the last communication from authorities was an autopsy report that only surfaced in Sept. 2019, after they told XBIZ in late May that the release of the results had been inexplicably “deferred.”

When it quietly surfaced, the coroner’s report established the cause of death as Cause A, “Anoxic encephalopathy” and a related Cause B, “Combined effects of cocaine, ethanol and other undetermined factors.”

Rain’s manner of death was described as “undetermined” by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office.
